Starting this post off right?
First I have to apologize for the formatting of this post, I’m doing this away from my main computer on my iPhone and it doesn’t seem to support headings.
Now back to my scheduled rant/observations already in progress!
UPDATE: I finally got around to editing this post on a computer. Seems like the app for the iPhone is kind of lacking and is SO SLOW while I was out and about! Even on 4G LTE!
What part of my life has this devilish Mistress invaded now?
The area she’s encroached on this time is our vehicle. Yep that wonderful piece of technology that sits outside that takes us from one place to another. They’re wonderful until…something breaks!!!!
Me being a old fart can remember when the technology on these vehicles were simple for the most part. Most of the components were mechanical not electrical and had simple ways of making the components dynamic. Ah the good old days
Wake up already!!
Sorry I was just daydreaming of a simpler time and I still to this day think that some of the older stuff is downright sexy! Guess I like the younger, modern Mistress as well as her mom and grandma!
Ummm…That didn’t come out exactly right did it?
Anyway let’s get back to the purpose of this post. Time changes and so does the standards for vehicle manufacturing and emissions. Hence someone’s idea of marrying mechanical with electronics. This evolution continues today. You cannot buy a car that doesn’t have at least one computer and Lord help you if something breaks! Because even something as simple as a unplugged sensor can throw off the whole works! One of the issues that is causing me a headache with my vehicle is a small vacuum leak which is driving that computer bonkers!
Yep a old school technology is causing the new(er) kid on the block a lot of headaches!
Guess what you will need in order to fix these vehicles?
Did you gues some sort of diagnostic tool or computer? Well you would win a prize if I had one to award! Yes it takes technology to diagnose technology. We’re becoming more and more the Mistress’ slaves by the minute!
These “tools” can be simple to sophisticated. From affordable to quite expensive! The one that I’m using is a combination unit that requires a phone app and a Bluetooth dongle. Another possible option for me as far as a scan tool goes is the Autel MaxiScan. It’s a few grand (ouch!) but not as much of a ouch as the SnapOn Verus at well over ten thousand dollars!! Mistress I do love you but not that much!!!
The tool no matter what the cost should help us humans interface the computers in our cars to not only ask what’s wrong but also get some data to help fix the issue. Without one of these tools, you will be having a heck of a uphill climb!!
Mind you that the more expensive the tool, the more diagnostic capabilities it has. Does this make you a better mechainic? Maybe. You have to know how to use the tool and know what it is capable of to get the maximum benefit from it. So a experienced mechanic with a simple tool could correctly diagnose a issue probably better than someone with the latest and greatest that doesn’t understand the tool and it’s capabilities.
If it wasn’t for the need to keep the vehicle going, I could have delayed this post a little while longer. However between the vacuum leak and some other issue happening, well I figured that this would be a good time to touch on this a bit.
The Mistress finds her way into everything it seems!
Oh YES! Each time she does, it hurts the ol’ purse strings too! Guess like a human mistress might. Maybe I need a sign that says “I’ll work for technology” and have a list of things that I could work for unless I can get a real life sugar mama to get me what I need. YEAH RRIIGGHHTT!!!
Could make for a weird situation there don’t you think? I have to satifify a “sugar moma” in order to satify the longer and more interesting relationship that a geek has with the Mistress of Technology.
So folks, this was another observation I had on how my Mistress keeps her claws embedded into my life. How has this effected you in your daily life? What area(s) has the Mistress gotten into your life? Look around, you will find plenty of places just in the room where you are sitting now.
Can’t seem to shake this Mistress can I?
